Access and clearance
Record gate opening, usable lane width, lowest panel edge, cables, supports and turning space. Include changes in tracker position and uneven ground when describing clearance.
SOLAR SITE EQUIPMENT SELECTION
A remote-controlled mower is a candidate for solar farm vegetation management where access, ground conditions and the site's operating rules permit mowing. Compare the machine's full dimensions with the narrowest passage, check panel and cable clearance, and agree on debris control before choosing a cutting width.

Start with the mowing route: open lanes, fenced perimeter strips and space beneath modules are different jobs. A machine that fits between rows may still be too tall beneath a panel or unable to turn at the end of a lane. Remote operation lets the operator stand away from the machine, but still requires supervision, visibility and a site-specific work plan.
The NREL PV operations and maintenance guide, third edition, sections 5.5.1–5.5.3 identifies racking clearance and access for mowing equipment as design issues, and warns that mowing projectiles can damage modules. Use those points to assess the site with its operator; they do not establish a TRAKVON model's operating limits.
Record gate opening, usable lane width, lowest panel edge, cables, supports and turning space. Include changes in tracker position and uneven ground when describing clearance.
Describe slope in degrees or percent grade, direction of travel, ruts, loose stones and soft patches. Identify drains and areas that remain wet after rain.
Send photos of the grass and stems, typical growth height, required finish and cutting frequency. Separate routine grass maintenance from woody vegetation removal.

800 MM CUTTING WIDTH
The 452-80L has an 800 mm cutting width and listed machine dimensions of 1070 × 1170 × 600 mm. Use the overall machine envelope and a suitable operating clearance when reviewing a route.

View 452-80L specificationsThese three configurations illustrate different cutting widths, machine envelopes and fuel choices. They are a starting shortlist, with suitability determined from your actual route and the quoted configuration. The full six-model comparison includes the remaining machines.
| Model | Cutting width / fuel | Machine L × W × H | What to check on site |
|---|---|---|---|
| 452-80L | 800 / gasoline | 1070 × 1170 × 600 | Overall width through gates; height beneath obstacles; turning room. |
| 195-80YC | 800 / diesel | 1630 × 950 × 700 | Longer body at row ends; access width; diesel servicing plan. |
| 810-130A | 1300 / gasoline | 1430 × 1710 × 680 | Room for the wider body in open lanes and sufficient turning space. |
Dimensions come from the model specifications linked above. A wider deck does not by itself establish faster site completion: obstacles, overlap, travel routes and the required finish also affect the job. Use a site assessment for slopes; catalog slope figures do not approve wet ground or a particular path under panels.
Ask the site operator to define exclusion areas around cables, electrical equipment, drains and fragile surfaces. Review thrown-object protection, the cutting setup and the permitted working route before a demonstration. Agree on the operating separation for this site rather than adopting a generic distance from a photograph.
Vegetation maintenance also has habitat and seasonal constraints. Michigan DNR's solar guidance recommends a plan covering mowing timing, invasive plants and vegetation targets. Its wildlife advice is specific to Michigan; follow the relevant local plan for your project.
Coordinate mowing with wider site maintenance. The U.S. Department of Energy's PV maintenance guidance includes drainage and vegetation planning in storm resilience. Our equipment selection approach is to review access and cutting needs alongside those site responsibilities.
Provide a simple layout, photographs, narrowest passage, lowest clearance, slopes and vegetation. State whether work is between rows, under modules or around the perimeter.
Request model, engine, cutting setup, overall dimensions, operating instructions and the documents required by the destination market.
Specify quantity, destination port or address, packing, freight basis, proposed wear parts and written warranty terms. See parts and warranty planning before comparing offers.
Include “solar farm” in your message, with row dimensions and site photos.
Only where the full machine envelope, operating clearance, ground profile and site rules allow it. Check the lowest clearance across tracker positions and the actual route, not just panel height at one point. Send the layout and dimensions for model selection.
No. Compare access, soil sensitivity, terrain, vegetation and the maintenance plan. Open areas may suit other mowing equipment or grazing, while tight sections can require separate trimming. Read the tracked versus wheeled guide when choosing a chassis.

Measure the lowest panel edge and row spacing between post lines. Check cables, obstacles, machine height and width, including the installed cutter and controller configuration.
Slope figures are supplier catalog comparison values. The source sheet does not state travel direction, ground, moisture or load. Check the quoted build and model-specific operating instructions; no row in this table is a site suitability recommendation.
